A Malaysian netizen has sparked concern online after claiming that a nurse stopped a woman from allegedly swapping her baby with another patient’s child inside a hospital ward.
However, the allegation has not been independently verified, and the netizen did not disclose when or where the incident supposedly occurred.
Baby kept crying
In a post shared on Threads, the netizen claimed that a Rohingya mother was staying in the same ward as a Malay mother.
According to the post, the Rohingya woman’s baby had been crying repeatedly, while the baby belonging to the patient in the bed opposite appeared calm.
The netizen alleged that when the Malay mother left her bed to use the toilet, the other woman attempted to exchange the two babies.
“Luckily, a nurse noticed it. It caused a commotion, and she was scolded,” the netizen claimed.
At the time the screenshots were taken, the post had received over 14,000 likes and thousands of shares.
Netizens express concern
The allegation left many netizens shocked, with several saying hospitals should introduce stricter security measures in maternity wards.
Some urged parents to photograph their newborns and check their identification tags, while others suggested installing more CCTV cameras to monitor the wards.
Several commenters also asked whether the mother of the other baby had been informed about the alleged incident.
Another netizen claimed to have heard of a separate incident involving a patient and a Rohingya mother in a hospital ward, though this account was also unsupported by evidence.
As the post gained attention, several comments called for foreign patients to be placed in separate wards or prevented from receiving treatment at government hospitals.
No statement from the hospital, the Ministry of Health, or the authorities regarding the alleged baby-swapping incident was issued at the time of writing.
