Rohingya Man Caught Driving Mercedes With No Road Tax, Insurance To Transport Vegetables In Langkawi

A Rohingya man was recently detained by Road Transport Department (JPJ) officials in Langkawi, Kedah for driving a luxury car without valid documents in place.

The incident was brought to light in a Facebook post by the department, which shared details of the ‘Ops Luxury’ operation conducted in the state.

According to the post, the Rohingya man was caught driving a Mercedes to transport vegetables to a market around Jalan Padang Matsirat.

An inspection later found that he failed to have the following documents: a valid driving licence, insurance coverage, and a valid road tax.

Due to these infractions, the vehicle was seized for further action under the relevant laws.

The department also reminded luxury car owners to not believe they were immune from existing laws luxury does not mean immunity from the law and to comply with them instead.

In the comment section, there were a handful of netizens who praised JPJ for taking swift action against lawbreakers.

There were also some who expressed surprise over how Rohingyas, one of the largest refugee communities in Malaysia, were able to afford luxury cars.
