Study: Road Quality In M’sia 2nd Best In Southeast Asia

However, the data was recorded up until 2019 only.
Roads in Malaysia have long been a source of complaints and annoyance for drivers, where many often rant about the potholes that are never fixed or the highways that are seemingly built haphazardly.

Thus, it would come as a surprise for many after a study found that the road quality in Malaysia is actually not as bad as everyone thinks.

With this score, this means that Malaysia’s road quality is the 21st best globally and in terms of the regional context, it is the 2nd best in Southeast Asia and 9th best in the whole of Asia.

At the very top was Singapore, where it received an aggregate score of 6.5, while the Netherlands and Switzerland occupied the second and third place respectively.

When compared with its Southeast Asian compatriots, here’s how Malaysia fared:

The only Southeast Asian countries not in the list were Timor-Leste and Myanmar as there wasn’t any data available.

Data only up until 2019

The road quality indicator is one of the components of WEF’s annual Global Competitiveness Index and the score is based on over 14,000 business leaders across 144 countries rating their country’s roads on a scale from 1 (underdeveloped) to 7 (extensive and efficient by international standards).

However, it must be noted that released data was gathered from 2006 to 2019 and there has been no further updates since.
