RMAF Hawk fighter jet crashes in Penang, one death confirmed

RMAF has confirmed the incident.

BUTTERWORTH – Two Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) pilots were involved in an accident when their aircraft crashed last night (16 Nov) at 10.07pm.

It has been reported that the Hawk 108 fighter jet crashed at Butterworth Air Force while conducting night flying training.

The pilots involved were identified as Capt Mohamad Affendi Bustamy and Major Mohd Fareez Omar.

It has been understood that the captain had died while his co-pilot Mohd Fareez is being treated at Seberang Jaya Hospital, Penang due to sustained injuries.

Shortly after the incident, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein express his condolences to the family of the deceased.

Furthermore, the ministry has been instructed to investigate the issue as well as channel help to the servicemen’s families.

“RMAF is now taking immediate action and will update from time to time regarding this accident.”

“All parties are advised not to spread any rumours or false information,” the statement read.
