M’sian Chef Slams Eatery For Charging Him RM5.90 For Nasi Lemak Which Had No Sambal

He also claimed he had to pay extra for sambal.
Nowadays, eating out is fast becoming a luxury for many Malaysians due to skyrocketing prices and wages that aren’t following in tandem with it.

A celebrity chef recently took to social media to vent his frustration at a local eatery chain about its exorbitant prices and meagre portions, which undoubtedly left a sour taste in his mouth.

Rants about being charged RM5.90 for nasi lemak which had no sambal

Taking to his TikTok account to share the encounter, Datuk Zamzani Abdul Wahab, better known as Chef Zam, said in the 51-second clip that he had ordered nasi lemak and some chicken rendang to go with it from a popular restaurant chain in Subang.

However, before he could dig into his meal, he was left sorely disappointed by the amount of chicken rendang being served, which cost him RM4.90.

Chef Zam also reiterated that the chicken rendang’s portion was exactly what was given to him and that he didn’t touch it at all.

Just when the meal couldn’t get any worse, the kicker came right at the end, where Chef Zam revealed that his RM5.90 nasi lemak was missing a crucial ingredient.

I opened the nasi lemak, on the inside, there was no sambal. The nasi lemak that they sell is empty, no sambal and it cost RM5.90.

“And guess what? Apparently I have to pay extra in order to get sambal for my nasi lemak!” he said in an exasperated tone.

In the caption, a clearly irate Chef Zam tagged the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Selangor and wrote: “Don’t try to cheat your customers of their money, okay?”

Netizens agree

The clip has since garnered 1.4 million views so far, with a handful of netizens agreeing with Chef Zam’s criticism of the eatery’s prices.

‘It’s really expensive. When I was working at Pavilion Bukit Jalil, a cup of hot Milo cost me RM9.90.’

‘It’s true. Not only there (the Subang outlet), but all of its branches. I once bought the ayam masak merah and just went along with it.’

‘Thank you Chef Zam for speaking up. Our family has already been affected, but we didn’t dare to speak out, afraid that they wouldn’t believe us or would deny their mistake. Too tired to argue and it will become another issue altogether.’
