Inflation has been hitting all sectors hard, and all kinds of foods have not been spared from its effects, including the sweets and gummies we used to nibble on during our schooling days.
One woman had a shock of her life after she discovered that she would have to fork out RM40 for a small pack of gummies which would have only cost way less years ago.
Was told to pay RM40 for pack of gummies
Taking to Facebook to share the encounter, the woman named Nabilla Aisha said she stopped by a candy shop to buy some gummies as her child was badgering her for sweets.
She then bought 150g of various gummies mixed together as she was told by the staff that the minimum amount was 150g.
As Nabilla went to make payment, her jaw nearly dropped to the ground when the staff told her the gummies would cost her a staggering RM40.
The staff also told me that an extra RM14 will be charged if the gummies weighed more than 100g. At that moment, I realised there wasn’t a sign placed stating the price.
“I tried asking the staff to reduce the amount of gummies, but she said it wasn’t possible as the gummies were all mixed together and that only the ones at the top could be removed,” she wrote.
In the end, Nabilla paid RM34 for the gummies, which understandably left her heartbroken and she declared that she will never purchase gummies again even if her child were to pester her for it.
‘This is crazy!’
In the comment section, netizens were just as shocked as Nabilla over the price of the gummies and expressed their thoughts on it.
‘This is crazy! RM40?? It wouldn’t even cost RM5 if you bought it at a retail store.’
‘I was once charged RM98. The staff was busy filling up the plastic bag with gummies as she wanted it to be full.’
‘RM40 is enough to buy a pack of rice. It’s a pity but the shop is also in the wrong for not stating that 100g will cost RM14.’
