The recent announcement of Malaysia’s 2025 Budget included a minimum wage increase to RM1,700 starting next year.
Yet, what truly shocked Malaysians recently is a viral post showing that one of the most popular clothing brands is allegedly offering retail associates a basic monthly salary of RM3,000.

A user on X (formerly Twitter), @xhaiex, shared a vacancy listing from a popular clothing brand, showing a generous pay for full-time and contract retail associates, which includes a basic salary of RM3,000 per month along with an additional allowance of RM150.
Part-time employees aren’t left out either, with wages ranging between RM12 and RM14 per hour.
With this attractive salary, the post quickly gained attention, leaving social media users in disbelief.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements

According to the listing, retail associates are expected to handle a variety of duties, such as greeting customers with a friendly smile, offering shopping baskets, keeping the sales floor tidy, and restocking items promptly.
They are also encouraged to uphold Uniqlo’s customer-first mindset and maintain respect for colleagues and customers alike.
In terms of requirements, the position is open to diploma holders and above, with proficiency in English and a strong customer-service attitude.
Candidates must also be flexible with shifts, as the job involves working on weekends and public holidays.
Netizens were stunned
Social media users had plenty to say about brand’s job offer. For some, the RM3,000 basic salary exceeded expectations, especially given the average pay for retail roles in Malaysia.
“The basic salary here is higher than mine, and I’ve been working for over 10 years!”

Another user compared it to the pay in other fields, saying, “The starting salary is the same as a fresh graduate project engineer,” highlighting the disparity in salaries across industries.

Others were so intrigued they started inquiring about applications. “How to apply for part-time.”
