‘RM1.7K Salary But Want Mazda 3?’ – M’sian Car Salesman Calls Out Gen Zs Chasing After Luxury Cars They Can’t Afford

He even had to block some buyers because too many RM1.7k earners insisted on getting the Mazda 3.
People usually assume car salesmen will encourage customers to buy the most expensive car they can afford or cannot afford.

But one Mazda salesman surprised TikTok users when he did the opposite, calling out young buyers for making unrealistic financial decisions before applying for a car loan.

His candid “hard truths” post revealed a growing trend among Gen Z Malaysians eager to own premium cars despite earning entry-level salaries.

Car salesman says many Gen Z earning RM1.7k want to buy Mazda 3

In the viral TikTok clip, the salesman known as Waibimazda shared how frequently young buyers earning a net salary of RM1,700 inquire about buying a Mazda 3, a car priced between RM118,900 and RM165,000 for the 2025 Sedan models in Malaysia.

Despite this, many still insist they can “manage” the monthly instalment of around RM1,200.

The problem? The math does not add up.

RM1,700 basic salary. After EPF deduction, RM1,500. If Mazda 3 monthly payment is RM1,200, you are left with RM300. That is like 25 cups of matcha. Then what are you going to eat?”

He advised young Malaysians to be patient, work hard and save consistently instead of rushing into huge financial commitments.

“One day you can own a Mazda 3. Or if you want the easy way, just tag your mother and say ‘Mak, I want Mazda 3’,” he joked.

Too many unrealistic applications

According to him, the volume of unrealistic applications became so overwhelming that he eventually had to block numbers belonging to RM1,700 earners who were determined to buy the model despite not meeting the financial threshold.

For those genuinely aiming for their dream car, he offered simple advice: start saving and control unnecessary spending.

“Control the urge to drink matcha. Then I can congratulate you early and say, ‘Congrats sis, Mazda 3 is yours’,” he added.

Malaysians quickly flooded the comment section, questioning why young people with low salaries were rushing into luxury car loans.

One user said: ‘People earning RM7,000 also drive Ativa. Too lazy to think about maintaining expensive cars. Every month I want to makan sedap-sedap.’
