You’d think that washing hands is just another habit instilled in us by our parents as a way to maintain hygiene. But turning it into a method to earn extra money on the side? Maybe not so.
Well, apparently an undisclosed stall in Penang believes that it is a legitimate means to rake in extra revenue—a move that has left many baffled.
RM0.50 fee just to wash hands
In a photo that was widely circulated on Facebook, it showed a piece of paper being pasted on the wall, with an open-air basin located beneath it.
On the note, it stated that those who wish to utilise the basin and soap provided will have to pay RM0.50.

Although it wasn’t stated where the notice and basin is located, netizens believe it’s somewhere in Penang Island.
Needless to say, the notice left many feeling puzzled and wondered what caused the stall to put it up in the first place.
One speculated that the stall owner was probably tired of seeing outsiders using the basin without patronising and decided to resolve it in such a manner.

Another said that if the incident was true, the stall wouldn’t last long as it many will boycott it for charging customers RM0.50 just to wash their hands.
Meanwhile, some poked fun at the incident, with one suggesting that those who pay the RM0.50 fee should take the soap back home after washing their hands.
