Nooryana Najwa, the daughter of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, expressed how Raya means nothing to the family celebrating without her father on her social media.
She described this year’s celebration as different, as they could not be with their father since Najib had to celebrate it in prison.
Raya means nothing
In the video’s caption, she wrote a long text: “This year’s Hari Raya holds no meaning for my family, usually my father is always with us.”
“Every year, Hari Raya is celebrated with beloved family members. This year is very different for us, as we celebrate without our father. Yana misses the joy of gathering with family to celebrate the festive occasion.”
Yana wrote that she was deeply affected by what happened to her father, who had to celebrate Hari Raya alone in prison.
“Hopefully, Yana can meet her father on the first day of Hari Raya,” she wrote in her Instagram post.
Choosing Raya attire
Nooryana Najwa also recalled memories of helping her father choose his Raya attire and pleaded to meet Najib on the first day of Syawal.
Their family would get matching fabric colours. Najib will also remind them to prepare his favourite rendang and lemang recipe from Mak Wan in Seremban.
“Before Raya, we would all visit our grandparents’ graves. On Raya morning, we would shake hands and ask for forgiveness, and of course, we would all take a family photo together. It won’t happen this year.”
“What does Raya mean to us without our father? Where are the joy and our family photos this year? Raya, this year is no longer meaningful to us,” she expressed sadness.
A chance to visit
In addition, she expressed her longing to meet her father and pleaded for a chance to visit him.
“Longing, indescribable longing. On the morning of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, will we be able to meet? Yana pleads for the opportunity to visit her father, Yana pleads for a little time together, Yana pleads for compassion to be with her father on Raya morning.”
“Yana pleads, Yana longs for family happiness. Yana holds on to the smallest shred of hope, praying for the best for her father,” she concluded.
