Rapid KL has since confirmed the incident in a media statement today, saying the incident happened at around 7.18pm yesterday (June 30), where it involved train number 57 which was heading towards Putra Heights at the time.
Following the explosion, the train was immediately removed from service as a safety measure and passengers were asked to disembark safely at the next station before continuing their journey on another train.
No injuries reported
Rapid KL also confirmed that no injuries were reported and services on the Kelana Jaya LRT line resumed shortly after.
Initial checks by the technical team found no damage to the train or its components. Inspections along the track between the Universiti and Taman Jaya stations found that the infrastructure was in good and safe condition for operations to continue.
Thin wire believed to be the cause
Based on preliminary investigations, Rapid KL said a thin wire, which wasn’t part of the train or track components, was found at the location.
It is believed that the wire, which had melted, was caught in the power supply system, leading to the small explosion.
Rapid KL said further checks were also carried out after operating hours as an additional safety measure.
It added that it views all safety related incidents seriously and will continue to investigate the matter. Preventive measures will also be taken to avoid similar incidents from reoccurring.
Passengers are also advised to check Rapid KL’s official social media pages or the MyRapid PULSE app for the latest updates on the Kelana Jaya LRT line.
