SETIAWAN – A Singaporean tourist claimed to have seen a tiger when he was having his morning exercise at Segari, Perak, reported Sinchew Daily.
He said that he heard two massive growls and saw a figure resembling a tiger’s.
With the help of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks, initial investigations of the nearby forest area revealed no traces of tiger activities, according to ManjungPolice District Chief ACP Nor Omar Sappi.
“For safety reasons, please avoid being around the area. We also urge the public to stay calm and believe rumours easily.”
He added that surveillance cameras had been installed in the area and that a trap would be set up if the tiger appears.
News of the tiger’s emergence circulated among fishing enthusiasts and fishermen via WhatsApp, warning them to steer clear of specific areas.
Although the tiger hasn’t been found, locals say that the rumours may be true as the area is home to different wildlife species.
“Since the rumours began swirling around, my worker and I did not dare to venture out alone in our shrimp farm or the beach anymore,“ said a local business owner.
