Port Dickson is every Malaysian’s go-to destination when it comes to short vacations. But is it still as good as it once was?
Recently, I had the chance to visit Club Med Cherating for a short getaway, and it completely changed my perspective on Malaysian beaches. Having frequently traveled to places like Sekinchan and Port Dickson, I often found them rather basic in comparison.
Here are all the reasons why Club Med Cherating is a must-visit destination as it’s truly a slice of heaven on earth.
Countless activities
I stayed at Club Med Cherating for three days and two nights, where I had the opportunity to reconnect with nature, enjoy the lush greenery and crystal blue waters, and soak up plenty of warm sunshine.
From excursions, sailing, sports, fitness, hiking, trapeze, and spa treatments, Club Med Cherating offers everything in one place. Personally, I loved how I was able to reconnect with nature since I live in Kuala Lumpur and was in need of fresh air and an escape from social media.
Unlike Port Dickson, the air quality at Cherating was better, the weather was cooler, and the beach boasted of clean shores.
Aside from swimming, I decided to try out other activities such as jungle trekking, turtle eggs hunt, and the botanical trail.
The jungle trekking, known as the Nature Trail, is a must-try if you visit Club Med Cherating. The tour is led by knowledgeable staff who share fascinating insights about the natural environment around the resort, including its plants, animals, and geology.
You’ll have the chance to walk through the jungle along clifftops overlooking the South China Sea, offering a truly unique and exceptional panoramic view.
Food, food, and more food
There are three restaurants for everyone to enjoy: The Mutiara, which offers a buffet-style dining experience; The Enak, an à la carte restaurant; and my personal favorite, The Rembulan, which features fine dining.
The Mutiara serves a wide variety of cuisines representing diverse cultures and regions and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. As for The Enak, meals are available for late breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
If you’re in the mood for something fancy, consider indulging in a three-course fine dining experience at The Rembulan, where you’ll be served a starter, main course, and dessert. I absolutely loved every bite I took.
For the starter, I chose the Dukha Coated Tuna, which was then followed by the Seafood Tagliatelle as the main course before it was finished off with ice cream for dessert.
The Seafood Tagliatelle was worth every penny as each bite was perfectly juicy and packed with flavor. Even now, I can still taste its deliciousness lingering on the tip of my tongue.
Breathtaking views
I can’t stress this enough: Cherating truly offers such breathtaking views that everyone should experience firsthand. One of the best aspects of Club Med Cherating is its Green Globe Platinum accreditation, which it achieved in 2024 after 10 consecutive years of certification.
This recognition was earned due to their careful efforts in building the resort while prioritising nature conservation and sustainability.
By reducing waste, preventing deforestation, conserving energy, and embracing various green initiatives, Club Med Cherating has made significant strides in protecting the planet.
Thanks to their commitment to preserving the natural beauty, the resort is truly a dream come true for beach lovers. Watching the sunrise by the beach at Club Med Cherating was undoubtedly the highlight of my stay.
The sky looked like it came straight out from a painting, the sound of crashing waves filled the air, and I was surrounded by towering palm trees swaying in serene silence. This was how my mornings looked like instead of being stuck in heavy traffic while on my way to work.
In a nutshell, it was a vacation that actually felt like a vacation.
The Cosmopolitan
As much as I love nature and tranquility, I also enjoy having a few drinks and unwinding with some good music and cocktails.
For me, the highlight of the cocktail menu was undoubtedly the Cosmopolitan. It tasted absolutely heavenly and I couldn’t resist indulging in a few too many. Be warned, though! The strong taste of alcohol is well-masked, making it easy for one to go overboard without realising it.
While Club Med Cherating clearly states that they are not responsible for any untoward event caused by intoxication, their staff, known as G.Os, are incredibly reliable and attentive if you ever need assistance.
During my stay, I witnessed Poppy and Alice, two G.Os on duty, swiftly assist my friend who needed help finding her room after having too much to drink. They located her room number by contacting the reception, found her purse and phone, and safely escorted her back to her room.
While they certainly don’t encourage excessive drinking, seeing how they go above and beyond to ensure their guests are safe and having a good time is truly remarkable and commendable.

As for the rooms at Club Med Cherating, it’s extremely unique as it’s the only resort in Malaysia that is built on stilts and hold the Guinness World Record for having the longest length in terms of distance in the world!
I can assure you that you will have the best time there with so many activities to do and lots of entertainment and beautiful view the entire time.
