Last week, the now infamous ‘Johor Axia couple’ shocked Malaysians after a clip of them having intercourse inside the vehicle went viral on social media.
Since then, countless memes and parody videos have been made regarding the incident, which has invited scorn and concern.
‘Johor Axia couple’ allegedly filmed by fake policeman
In yet another twist to the salacious story, it seems that the couple’s tryst had a more sinister background to it.
According to a Facebook post by lawyer and Tebrau MP Jimmy Puah, he said that the couple were allegedly filmed by a person posing as a policeman.
He added that the ‘officer’ also demanded that the couple produce their IC and threatened to leak the sex video after they refused to do so.
“They then tried to flee from the ‘policeman’ but he continued to chase after them all the way to the Pasir Putih police station,” he said.
Harian Metro also reported that Puah is ready to offer free legal service for the ‘Axia couple’.
‘Punishment is too harsh’
Puah also offered his thoughts about the case and the punishment that the couple is facing under Section 377D of the Penal Code, that is a jail term of up to two years.
Speaking to reporters outside the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters yesterday, he said that the sentence was “too harsh” and called upon the Public Prosecutor’s Office to frame the charges under another Act.
Personally, I think it is too harsh because they have not beaten anyone, committed theft, or even sold drugs – but they are facing jail time.
“I think that since they are young, they should be given a second chance. I don’t want to interfere (with the investigation), but maybe there are other charges that are more suitable for their case,” he said as quoted by The Star.
Puah also said that he was informed that police have summoned two individuals, reportedly the ones who filmed and and posted the video, to give their statements.
He also said that while he agreed that what the ‘Axia couple’ did was morally wrong, he added that fairness had to be given to them as well.
Summary of events
On Friday (Apr 7), we reported of the young couple who were caught having sex inside a red Axia at an empty parking lot, where the 22-year-old man told the person behind the camera that his 17-year-old girlfriend was in pain.
Not long after, both of them were swiftly arrested by police and charged with violating public decency, where they face up to two years in jail.
