Perak Stall That Charged RM18 For Mixed Rice Found Guilty Of Overcharging By KPDN

The stall breached the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act.
A mixed rice stall in Tanjung Malim was found to have violated the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 following an investigation by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN).

This comes after a student surnamed Hu filed a complaint after being charged RM18 for a plate of mixed rice.

Stall owner claim it was a huge portion

As shown in a photo by Hu, the meal included stir-fried broccoli, cauliflower, potatoes, and pork belly.

Surprised by the high price, Hu was informed by the stall owner that the meat alone cost RM10 due to its premium cut and large portion, enough for two people.

The vegetables were priced at RM3 each and the rice at RM2, bringing the total amount to RM18.

However, the stall owner also claimed that Hu tried to hide the true portion of the food in his photo by rearranging the dishes to “make it look smaller”.

Filed a complaint

Unconvinced, Hu submitted a complaint to the Tapah branch of the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry through their mobile app on May 31.

According to Sin Chew Daily, Hu provided a screenshot showing that the ministry appointed an investigating officer on June 3 and concluded the investigation on yesterday (June 17).

He later received an official letter from the ministry confirming that the stall had indeed breached the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act.
