After opening to the public on December 15, the Bertam Souk and Water Park in Kepala Batas, Penang, was forced to close temporarily yesterday (Dec 28).
The Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) issued the closure order after discovering that the premises were operating without an entertainment licence for water theme park activities, according to Astro Awani.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the MBSP stated that it performed various inspections commencing on December 16 and concluding on December 27.
“The MBSP discovered that the theme park was operating without a licence and warned management to suspend the water theme park’s entertainment operations under the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment 1998.”
“But, the management continued to disregard the directives, prompting a closure action to be initiated at roughly 9.40 a.m. today,” according to the statement.
A 58-second video of guests congregating in front of the theme park’s entrance has gone viral. Some MBSP officers were also observed placing closure notices on the premises.

The closure disappointed the visitors who came to the theme park during school vacations.
The RM90 million amusement park was claimed to have opened on December 15 after being delayed due to various issues, including the COVID-19 epidemic.
