Water is an essential natural resource for our everyday lives as we need it to cook, washing of clothes, and maintaining our personal hygiene.
Thus, if you’re a Penangite or are currently residing in the state be it long or short-term, brace yourselves as there will be a four-day water cut in the entire state next month.
Penang to have water cuts for 4 days
According to a statement by the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) on its Facebook account on Wednesday (Dec 6), it said that the water cuts will take place from Jan 10 to 14.
It also warned that numerous areas will not have water supply or experience low water pressure.
Along with the post was a graph which showed which areas will have no water supply (in pink) and those with low water pressure (in yellow).
We urge consumers to make preparations by storing enough water to face this supply disruption. This is to minimise inconvenience during the disruption.
“We will make notifications about assistance and other support from time to time,” the statement read.
Water cuts needed to replace 50-year-old valves
Meanwhile, Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the water cuts are part of a major upgrading exercise which will see 50-year-old valves and pipes being replaced.
If we do not replace or repair them, we would encounter sudden water disruptions. While I realise many would be unhappy with the water cuts, it is better to have scheduled water disruptions, compared to unscheduled ones.
“We hope everyone will store water before the maintenance works begin and water supply will be restored in stages,” he said as quoted by FMT.
