With this victory, Pearly-Thinaah have secured a chance of winning a medal and will face world No. 1 Chen Qingchen-Jia Yifan in the semi-finals, whom they lost to previously during the group stage.
Their victory also made them the only women’s doubles team to ever reach the semi-finals at the Olympics, a feat that no Malaysian athlete has achieved thus far, reported The Star.
Other Malaysian shuttlers who have yet to play their matches are Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik, and Lee Zii Jia, who will be in action at 7pm and 8.10pm respectively (Malaysian time).
As for women’s singles Goh Jin Wei and mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Goh Ee Wei, their Olympic run was brought to an end following losses to their opponents.
Congratulations to Pearly-Thinaah for the historic win and we will continue to cheer on for the remaining athletes!
