Passengers Panic After Power Bank Catches Fire At KLIA 2

It's not known whether anyone was hurt.
A clip showing passengers scurrying for safety after a power bank allegedly caught fire has gone viral online.

The scene was captured in a one-minute video, where the incident reportedly took place at KLIA 2 at 11.06am yesterday (July 26).

In the clip, it showed several passengers at the KLIA 2 Terminal backing off and keeping their distance from a backpack which had smoke billowing out from it.

Finally, a male staff from a nearby restaurant took a fire extinguisher to douse the power bank, coating the entire backpack in a white, powdery substance.

Subsequently, several people dug through the ashen debris and saw that a power bank was to blame for the smoke, prompting one of them to pour water over it in an attempt to cool it down.

It’s not known whether anyone got hurt in the incident and no official statement has been issued by the authorities at the time of writing.

Netizens were shocked by the fire and cautioned others against buying an inferior power bank just to save on a few Ringgit.

Another questioned the lack of Malaysia Airports (MAHB) officers being present at the scene, raising questions about the the level of preparedness if such incidents were to occur.
