The chief of the Islamist party Parti Islam Se-Malaysia’s (PAS) Perak branch is now in hot water after he erroneously claimed that Youth and Sports Minister had familial ties to the late Yeoh Tiong Lay, the founder of YTL Corporation Berhad.
It didn’t take long for netizens to bash the PAS chief for his false claim, with Hannah herself also responding to the allegations.
Claimed Hannah Yeoh was related to YTL
This comes after a clip made rounds on social media showing Haji Razman Zakaria giving a speech during a ceramah yesterday (Jan 26), where he claimed that Hannah was the “daughter of a rich man” and “the daughter of the founder of YTL Corporation”.
Lepas MP Kepala Batas sepu..pu ..Dr Mastura kena bayar 830ribu sebab fitnah pemimpin2 DAP, mai sorang lagi @RazmanZakaria60 ni. Akal org PAS ni, asal nama sama, mesti ada kaitan. Membaca malas. #DahBacaKeBelum pic.twitter.com/Q32S41sfle

It must be noted that although Hannah and the late Yeoh Tiong Lay happen to share the same surname, there’s no solid evidence to prove that they’re related to each other.
‘Not all Yeohs are related’
Not long after the clip went viral, Hannah responded to the erroneous claim on her X profile, where she simply wrote, “PAS needs to know not all Yeohs are related.”

Netizens also took to the thread’s comment section to slam Zakaria for spreading falsehoods and urged Hannah to take legal action against him.

PAS chief admits mistake
Zakaria later took to his Facebook account for wrongfully claiming that Hannah and the late Yeoh Tiong Lay were relatives.
He also claimed that the viral clip was taken out of context by the media in order to “make a headline” out of it.
However, this isn’t the first time PAS members have conjured downright inaccurate familial ties, with the most recent being Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura claiming that Lim Kit Siang, Lim Guan Eng, and Teresa Kok were related to Chin Peng, the leader of Communist Party of Malaya (CPM).

She was later sued for defamation and ordered to pay RM300,000 to Kit Siang, RM250,000 to Guan Eng, RM200,000 to Kok, and RM25,000 in legal costs to each of them, reported FMT.
