“Not Beneficial” — PAS Leader Calls Upon Govt To Cancel Coldplay’s Concert In Kuala Lumpur

"Is the govt trying to promote hedonistic and deviant culture?"
British rock band Coldplay recently announced that they will be having their first-ever concert in Malaysia at the Bukit Jalil Stadium on November 22, much to the excitement of diehard fans.

However, it has also ruffled some feathers among certain parties, particularly those from the conservative party PAS, who see it as an event promoting debauchery and hedonism.

PAS leader: ‘Cancel Coldplay’s concert!’

In a Facebook post by PAS central working committee member Nasrudin Hassan, he questioned the government’s decision to let Coldplay perform in the country, asking whether it actually intended to promote “hedonism and deviant cultures”.

He also posted several pictures of the band’s lead singer Chris Martin, who was seen waving an LGBT flag during a 2016 concert in London, as well as prime minister Anwar Ibrahim’s message welcoming the band into the country.

I advise (the government) to cancel the concert. It brings no benefit to race, religion or country.

Backlash from netizens

Nasrudin’s call to cancel Coldplay’s concert has sparked a fierce debate on social media, with some supporting the PAS leader’s stance and others criticizing it as an attack on artistic expression and freedom of speech.

Some pointed out that the previous government under PN and BN had approved Billie Eillish’s concert and slammed them for practising double standards.

Additionally, others reminded Nasrudin that Anwar had welcomed Coldplay to perform thanks to their efforts in sponsoring a river cleaning programme, proving that they care for the environment.
