PAS Wishes M’sians Happy Deepavali, Calls For National Diversity To Be Preserved

"Make our diversity a shared asset rather than a destructive poison."
With Deepavali set to be celebrated tomorrow (Oct 31), the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has released a statement wishing Malaysians a Happy Deepavali.

Along with the greetings, the Islamic party also had a message to convey to Malaysians about the importance of safeguarding the country’s diversity, reported The Star.

PAS: ‘Preserve our diversity this Deepavali’

In the statement, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Haji Hassan said that the key message of Deepavali — where light triumphs over darkness or truth over lies, was in line with every Malaysian’s aspiration regardless of religion, belief or background.

He also called upon Malaysians to be wary of becoming ‘Trojan horses’ for ‘foreign’ ambitions and narratives, that would undermine and destroy national interests and aspirations if left unchecked.

PAS urges all parties to continuously position and harmonise Malaysia’s rich diversity of religions, beliefs and cultures within our national framework and landscape, making it a shared asset rather than a destructive poison.

“In conjunction with Deepavali celebrations, PAS hopes to see Malaysians continue to seek the truth and justice instead of being swayed by emotions, sentiments, or extreme, exaggerated behaviours,” he said.

Takiyuddin also reminded Malaysians travelling for Deepavali to be careful on the road in light of extreme weather sweeping through the country.

This isn’t the first time PAS had extended festive greetings to Malaysians, with its most surprising one being last Christmas:
