Residents in Pokok Mangga, Melaka, woke up to tragic news of a local part-time singer who died after she was allegedly stabbed by her live-in boyfriend over the weekend.

China Press reported that the incident took place at the victim’s home  in Taman Seri Mangga Section 1.

According to the Chinese daily, the victim, 52-year-old Lin An Qi (transliteration), who hails from Sibu, Sarawak, had a heated argument with her boyfriend on Friday night (Feb 21), which was overheard by a housemate.

Worried for her wellbeing, the housemate knocked on Lin’s room door to check on her the next morning.

When Lin’s boyfriend opened the door, he waved the housemate and her concern off. But when the housemate refused to relent, she managed to catch of glimpse of Lin lying motionless on the bed through a crack in the door.

She then called a friend, who immediately alerted the police. When police arrived, they found Lin’s bloodied body and her boyfriend in the room.

Kosmo later reported that Lin’s boyfriend sustained minor knife injuries and two knives were discovered at the crime scene. He was eventually arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Was loved by local community

Friends of Lin told China Press that she had worked for years as a resident singer in several hawker centres in Melaka and was adored for her friendly demeanour.

They added that Lin, who was married and bore three kids, had moved into the house with her boyfriend from Penang six months ago.

Despite knowing this fact, they never pried into her personal affairs with her boyfriend as they wanted to respect her privacy.

Photos circulating online showed Lin’s husband and children turning up at the crime scene as soon as they heard of the murder but were stopped from entering the house.

Police are working to determine the cause behind Lin’s murder.
