MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong missed his daughter’s betrothal ceremony in London as he was occupied with the Johor state election.
In a Facebook post, Wee shared that his daughter, Joan Wee, and her fiancé were holding their Guo Da Li ceremony, also known as a betrothal ceremony, while votes were being counted on the night of July 11.
Stayed in Johor for the election
Wee explained that polling day was an important occasion for the entire state.
As MCA president, he said he had to fulfil his responsibility as a voter while leading the party’s election machinery throughout the campaign.
This meant he had no choice but to miss one of his daughter’s important milestones.
Sorry, Joan. Papa could not be there for your important ceremony,” he wrote.
Fortunately, Wee’s wife attended the ceremony on his behalf and accompanied the couple in London.
Promised to arrive before the wedding
Despite missing the betrothal ceremony, Wee assured his daughter that he would not miss the wedding.
He said he would arrive in London at 5.30 am on July 13, which would be two hours before the wedding was scheduled to begin.

BN secures landslide victory in Johor
The Johor state election ended with a commanding victory for Barisan Nasional, which won 48 out of the 56 state seats contested.
Pakatan Harapan secured the remaining eight seats, while Perikatan Nasional and Bersama failed to win any seats.
MCA also recorded a stronger performance by winning eight seats, double the four seats it secured during the 2022 state election.
Following the results, Wee congratulated MCA’s newly elected assemblymen and urged them to remain humble and begin serving their constituents immediately.
