Guests who once checked into a hotel in Sarawak may remember being greeted not just by hotel staff, but also by a fluffy orange cat named Oyen.
The well loved feline, who became somewhat of a mascot at The Waterfront Hotel, has sadly passed away.
Hotel announces Oyen’s passing

The news was shared through the hotel’s official TikTok page, where staff expressed their sadness over losing a cat that had been part of the hotel family for years.
According to the post, Oyen had been with the hotel since it first opened and was known for bringing joy, comfort, and smiles to both guests and employees.
“We are saddened to announce the passing of Oyen, our beloved hotel cat,” the hotel wrote.
The hotel also described Oyen as a “cherished part” of its story and thanked him for the memories he created throughout the years.

Became famous as the hotel’s ‘security guard’
Oyen previously gained attention online after clips and photos of him roaming around the hotel surfaced on social media.
Many netizens affectionately referred to him as the hotel’s “security guard” because he was often spotted sitting near entrances, watching over guests, and casually patrolling the lobby area.
Some guests even shared that they looked forward to meeting Oyen whenever they visited the hotel.
Last year, WeirdKaya also featured Oyen after his adorable presence at the hotel captured the hearts of Malaysians and tourists alike.
