A Nigerian woman living in Malaysia has gone viral on TikTok after sharing her thoughts about the country’s night markets, or pasar malam.
She said the food has become outrageously priced and no longer feels like the pasar malam she expected.

In a video uploaded on her TikTok account @owenclairee, she said that pasar malam no longer feels like a true Malaysian night market.

“Malaysia is losing its culture. Pasar malam doesn’t feel like pasar malam anymore. Things are outrageously priced the same as in Jaya Grocer. Chocolate and cheesecake is slowly replacing karipap, shawarma is slowly replacing roti.”
The clip instantly gained traction, sparking discussions among Malaysians who agreed or disagreed with her take.
