The change comes after widespread backlash from customers who expressed frustration over the sudden hike.
In a statement posted on its official platforms, Oriental Kopi expressed its regret over the confusion caused and assured customers that the service charge will remain unchanged throughout the festive season.
The statement read, “We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused in the past few days.
During this CNY season, we are committed to maintaining our current service charge rate and ensuring you and your loved ones enjoy the best dining experience.”
The restaurant also took the opportunity to wish its patrons a happy and prosperous new year, stating, “In this festive and joyous season, we warmly welcome you to celebrate with us and enjoy authentic local cuisine with your friends and family. May you have a blessed new year filled with happiness and good fortune!”
This announcement comes after intense online debate over the initial decision to raise the service charge, with some supporting the move and others calling it unreasonable.
