A Malaysian kopitiam brand is aiming to make history this Labour Day.
Attempting record for most nasi lemak sold in 8 hours
Oriental Kopi announced that it will be attempting a Guinness World Records title for the most servings of nasi lemak sold in 8 hours.
The challenge will take place on May 1 in conjunction with Labour Day.
According to the brand, the target is to sell 10,000 plates within 8 hours.
That works out to roughly one plate every few seconds.
“Not just an ordinary challenge”
In its social media post, Oriental Kopi said the attempt is more than just breaking a record.
It described the effort as a way to bring Malaysia’s national dish onto the global stage.
“This isn’t just any ordinary challenge. We’re bringing Malaysia’s pride, nasi lemak, to the world,” the post read.
Calling on Malaysians to support
The brand also urged Malaysians to take part and support the attempt.
It added that every plate sold represents a collective effort and pride as a nation.
“We can’t do this alone. We need all of you,” it said.
If successful, the attempt could mark a new international milestone for one of Malaysia’s most iconic dishes.
