For disabled individuals in Malaysia, getting around is already a monumental task in itself due to poorly-maintained OKU facilities, but nothing’s more frustrating than seeing healthy individuals hogging OKU-prioritised facilities.
This was exactly the scene which was captured by a netizen, where it has garnered close to 50,000 likes at the time of writing.
OKU man ‘loses out’ to able-bodied group
In a photo posted on Threads by @ari.yeo8, it showed an elderly man seated on a wheelchair while looking at a lift in an undisclosed station.
The photo also showed a group of people, many of whom did not have physical disabilities, squeezing into the lift while the OKU man could only look on.

None of them were also seen rendering any form of assistance to the OKU man.
In the caption, the OP claimed the OKU man had arrived at the lift first but it was quickly occupied by the group.
He also slammed the group for acting selfishly and called upon Malaysians to show more consideration towards disabled individuals.
It’s not about “special treatment”. It’s about accessibility, consideration and giving priority to someone who genuinely needs it.
“A little awareness can make public spaces more inclusive for everyone.”

Reactions
Unsurprisingly, netizens were displeased by the photo and roundly condemned the group for acting inconsiderately towards the OKU man.

One netizen sarcastically remarked that he hopes the group will get their just desserts in the form of missing every train they were trying to catch.

Remember, always give lift priority to disabled, elderly, or pregnant folks. Better still, climb the stairs!
