MUAR: It’s been ages since we were able to travel freely to other states due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Only those with an official letter approved by the police are allowed to do so.
An 81-year-old man unintentionally travelled for 80km from Malacca to Pagoh while he rode out on his motorcycle to buy dinner on Sunday (June 6). As a result, he had to spend a night at a shelter.
Fortunately, he crossed paths with a durian dealer named Yee and his son, who bought him breakfast and applied for an approval letter on his behalf to go home.
In an interview with China Press, Yee said that the man had lost his way and rode along the North-South Expressway and all the way to the Pagoh Toll.
“As night fell, he realised that he was lost and slept at a shelter by the roadside,” he said.
Famished and tired, the old man continued his journey the next morning in the pouring rain. That was when he met Yee and his son at their durian stall at Bukit Pasir.
Yee’s son said the old man’s were red and bleary, and had no idea how he winded up in Muar.
“He didn’t know he was on the highway, so he decided to keep moving forward.”
After much difficulties, Yee and his son got in contact with the old man’s nephew through WhatsApp and applied for an official letter for him to return home.
The old man’s family has since said that he had returned home safely on Monday (June 7) and thanked Yee and his son for helping him reunite with them.
