Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria has announced his resignation as the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president amid a controversy surrounding his family’s presence at the Paris Olympics 2024.
To step down after the Olympics
According to The Star, he said he will resign from BAM after seeing all the response he received online.
I hope the next leader can improve the state of badminton affairs in our country,” he told the English daily.
Norza had previously hinted at stepping down after the Olympic Games, underscoring his commitment to both OCM and BAM, roles he holds pro bono.
I do not receive any salary from both organizations. I want to help bring glory and pride to our nation,” he reportedly said.
‘Attack on my family is unnecessary’
He expressed distress over the recent scrutiny faced by his family, stating, “This attack on my family is absolutely unnecessary, and my family does not need to go through such scrutiny.”
