KEDAH – The Ministry of Tourism (MOTAC) has released an official statement today following news of 28 tourists from Alor Setar experiencing COVID-19 symptoms during their getaway at Genting Highlands on April 22.
In its statement, MOTCA clarified that a tourism company registered in Bukit Mertajam, Penang, had organized the trip to Genting Highlands and was travelling through the government-authorised green travel bubble concept.
“Upon returning from Genting Highlands on April 24, several group members began exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms and were examined at the Health Clinic.
“[However], the index case has yet to be identified.”
MOTAC also said that their investigations revealed that the tourism company had complied with the tourism bubble SOPs.
“The company is also cooperating with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and police and has submitted all documents including travel documents and its Travel Operating Business and Travel Agency Business (TOBTAB) license.”
The tourism bubble has since been suspended since May 4 until further notice.
MOTAC also reminded the public only to use the services of travel agencies and tour vehicle companies registered with it to ensure that it’s the “best and safest”.
