M’sian squash queen Nicol David conferred Datukship by Agong

Congrats!

KUALA LUMPURFormer world No.1 and two-time Commonwealth Game champion Nicol David was conferred the Panglima Jasa Negara (PJN) award which carries the ‘Datuk’ title by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Bill Shah today (Nov 16).

She was among the 12 recipients during the second session of the investiture ceremony to confer the 2021 Federal orders, decorations and medals in conjunction with His Majesty’s birthday at Istana Negara.

Other recipients include Kelantan state secretary Datuk Nazran Muhammad, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM) vice-chancellor Lieutenant General Datuk Hasagaya Abdullah, former Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Huzir Mohamed and Royal Malaysia Police Special Branch director Datuk Zamri Yahya.

Guests who were present at the ceremony were also seen adhering to Covid-19 SOPs such as wearing masks, measuring their temperatures, and checking-in with MySejahtera.

Known as the greatest female squash player of all time, Nicol David has won the World Open title 8 times and reached her 151st consecutive month in the top 10 in July 2016.

She is also the first squash player to have won the World Junior title twice.
