The daughter of an elderly woman who was tragically killed after she was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the road in Penang last Wednesday (Apr 2) is calling for accountability to be taken for the incident.
This comes after the motorcyclist, a 17-year-old teenage boy, allegedly didn’t offer a word of apology or show remorse for his part in the tragedy.
Was knocked down by teen motorcyclist
Speaking to China Press about her mother’s sudden demise, Chen Pingping (transliteration), said the accident happened at around 11am in front of a shop at the Air Itam market.

She added that based on a video provided by witnesses, it showed three motorcycles speeding by at the time of the incident, one of which appeared to be carrying a female student.
However, it was unclear whether her mother had completely crossed the road before being hit by one of the motorcycles due to the poor video quality.
“Several bystanders tried to help my mother, who vomited blood at the scene. But a doctor later confirmed that she died on the spot.
“The rider who hit her actually tried to flee but was stopped from doing so. Another motorcyclist, believed to be his friend, even took off his helmet and attempted to assault the person who blocked them,” said Chen.

Not along after the accident, Chen’s friend helped her in creating a post on social media which urged the motorcyclist to come forward to apologise.
“I later heard that the teenager passed on a message through a friend, saying he was too afraid to appear because he thought he might be beaten.
I had no intention of hurting anyone. All I wanted is an apology so that my mother could rest in peace,” reiterated Chen.

Chen added she even reached out to the teen after she tracked down his Instagram account and requested him to attend her mother’s wake. However, she claimed he gave vague answers and dodged her questions.
“This teenager killed someone, yet he didn’t come to apologise. Even his parents didn’t show up at the wake to pay their respects.
“I’m now waiting for what kind of charges will be brought against him by police before I decide on whether to take legal action or not,” she said.

Chen also said that once her mother’s funeral affairs are settled, she plans to meet with the investigating officer, where police would review CCTV footage to determine whether the accident was captured on camera.
