But amidst the excitement, one particular incident generated much buzz among local football fans.

This occurred during the pre-game when Idris Brown performed the national anthem Negaraku alongside musician Muzza, who played the electric guitar.

‘Can sing like this meh?’

The performance has since attracted largely negative comments from netizens on social media, who slammed it as disrespectful and unpatriotic.

“I personally feel singing (Negaraku) like this lacks patriotism. Singing Negaraku with the original music has a different patriotic ‘feel’ to it.”

“Negaraku is a national song. Singing the normal version is enough or else it will become like Fergie singing ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’.”

On the other hand, some argued that there was nothing wrong in singing the national anthem in such a manner.

“It’s just a rock version not a remix. Nothing wrong with it.”
