PETALING JAYA – National badminton player Goh Jin Wei left badminton fans reeling in shock after she announced her retirement via YouTube today.
In the video, she explained that her decision was made due to existing health issues.
Due to health reasons, I have to make this tough decision to end my badminton career way earlier than I thought.
She also added that she has been on a regiment of medications after undergoing stomach surgery in 2019.
“I quit with a lot of regrets and unwillingness. But I believe that I can still excel in other fields in the future as long as I am willing to work hard for it,” she said.

Jin Wei also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to those who had cheered for her throughout her entire career.
To my supportive fans, sorry for not letting you all to see me reach the peak in my badminton career.
Jin Wei’s announcement has effectively dashed the hopes of The Badminton Association of Malaysia’s (BAM) goal of forming a junior squad for Paris 2024, of which she was expected to play at the singles event.
BAM has yet to release a statement over the matter.
Down but not out
In the video, Jin Wei also mentioned her best buddies Lee Zii Jia and Lai Pei Jing, saying that she wishes them all the best and hopes they can fulfil her dream by making the nation proud with bigger achievements.
In response, Zii Jia wrote a post on Facebook dedicated to her and told her to stay strong.
I will carry on your dream and do my best to fulfil it. Don’t worry about it!
Let’s wish Jin Wei all the best in her future endeavours and not forget her contribution to the national badminton team!
