Ex-PM Najib Gets 2 Days Of MC & 1MDB Trial Postponed Due To Diarrhea

The trial was scheduled to be held today and tomorrow.
In what could possibly be the oddest twist to the ongoing 1MDB trial, former prime minister Najib Razak has been given two days of MC after he suffered from diarrhea.

According to Kajang Prison medical officer Dr Mohd Hafiz Mohd Hoshni, the MC was issued by the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), reported Malaysiakini.

Suffered from diarrhea since last night

When asked to explain the situation by trial judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah, Hafiz said he was told by an assistant medical officer that Najib was suffering from diarrhea the night before.

Around 7.30am, I examined him. I asked him what was the issue and he said he had a stomach ache and went to the toilet to defecate four times.

“Then I gave him charcoal (tablets) and after 10 minutes, he said he was still feeling the same. Then I examined him further and found he had mild dehydration and a slight fever with a temperature of 37.8 degrees,” he said as quoted by the news portal.

Najib was later referred to HKL and arrived there between 9.30am and 10am today.

Hafiz also described Najib as “tired, lethargic and dehydrated” as a result of the excessive defecation.

1MDB trial postponed

Hafiz told the court that Najib was unwell to stand for the 1MDB trial which was scheduled to be held today and tomorrow as he “was given drips (intravenous fluids) and is unable to stand or sit for long”.

In light of the situation, Sequerah called for the postponement of the trial to Thursday (May 11).

Najib is currently facing 4 counts of abuse of power and 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.28 billion from 1MDB, where it’s considered to be the biggest financial scandal in the world.

On March 31, he filed a final appeal to have his 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine overturned for allegedly misappropriating RM42 million in SRC International funds but failed, causing him to serve his time in prison.

His only way of walking free would be a royal pardon from the Yang di-Pertua Agong (YDPA), of which the King has expressed no wish in granting one thus far.
