The announcement was made by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, marking a significant move by the government to honor the Deepavali celebration, particularly for the Indian Hindu community.

“This initiative is not just a celebration of Deepavali, but a celebration of all Malaysians,” said the minister.

“It reflects our unity government’s commitment to ease the burden of the people, transcending the diversity of religions, races, and beliefs.”

The minister’s statement also highlighted the government’s hopes that the free toll will enable highway users to plan their journeys more efficiently during this festive period.

Additionally, travelers are advised to adhere to the recommended travel time schedule or travel time advisory (TTA) to ensure smooth and safe journeys.

This gesture of free tolls during Deepavali is seen as a positive step towards fostering unity and communal harmony in Malaysia’s multicultural society, bringing a little more joy and ease to the festive celebrations.
