A woman has apologised after a photo showing an upside-down Jalur Gemilang on the back of a pickup truck drew criticism online.
She later clarified that the flag was a magnetic sticker and claimed it may have been placed back incorrectly by a car wash worker after it fell off during a wash.
The photo, which circulated on social media, showed the vehicle travelling on a highway with the Malaysian flag displayed upside down on its rear.
The image quickly caught the attention of netizens, with some questioning whether the flag had been displayed incorrectly on purpose.
Believes sticker fell off during car wash
According to Kwong Wah Yit Poh, the woman addressed the matter in a Facebook post and stressed that it was not intentional.
She believed the magnetic flag sticker had fallen off while the vehicle was being washed.
The car wash worker may then have placed it back onto the vehicle without noticing that it was upside down, she claimed.
Corrected it after noticing
The woman said they immediately corrected the sticker after realising it had been placed wrongly.
She also apologised to Malaysians over the incident and clarified that they had no intention of disrespecting the national flag.
The incident serves as a reminder for motorists to check that flag stickers and decorations are displayed correctly, especially during the Merdeka season.
