M’sians Slam Langkawi Restaurant For RM5 Water, Owner Says It Was An Error

"Our staff entered the wrong code" says the restaurant owner.
Repeatedly, people have been talking about the high prices of food, but lately, it’s not about the food itself – it’s about the unexpectedly steep price tag on something as basic as a glass of plain iced water.

To the shock of many, a restaurant in Langkawi charged RM5 for just a plain cup of iced water.

While it might be understandable for a premium bottled water, the water in question was a simple cup of filtered water served in a plastic cup.

Who said I slandered about this whole thing, you will be crawling to find me in the afterlife. Please take note that the RM1 you see is the kuih’s price. I closed it because I wanted to highlight the price of plain water. Byeeeee.”

The alleged restaurant responds

The restaurant, “Shell Out Restaurant Cenang,” responded to the ongoing issue in a Facebook group, clarifying that the RM5 charge was a mistake made by their staff.

In their post, they expressed their apologies to the customer, acknowledging the staff’s mistake in entering the bill due to carelessness.

They explained, “Our staff mistakenly entered code no. (1111) Nescafe and forgot to change the price, Origin – Code no. (CA07) plain water,” adding that the charge for plain water has consistently been RM1 since the inception of their business.

As a measure of transparency, the restaurant posted receipts showing a comparison of water prices in other customer transactions.
