For many employees, company trips are seen as a reward for all the hard work put in throughout the year.
Usually, companies cover expenses such as flights, accommodation, meals, and activities, while employees only pay for their own personal shopping or extra spending.
However, one Malaysian worker recently claimed that their company’s “reward trip” came with a surprising catch.
Asked to pay for flight tickets themselves
In a post shared on the Facebook group “KL吹水站”, the employee said they have been working at a beauty salon for almost seven years.
According to the post, the salon only has five employees in total.
The worker shared that their boss recently announced plans for a company trip this year, but staff were allegedly told they would need to fork out thousands of Ringgit themselves to pay for flight tickets.

On top of that, the trip would also reportedly be deducted from their annual leave entitlement.
Employee reluctant to join but fears looking “unsporting”
The employee admitted that they were not very interested in joining the trip due to the costs involved.
However, they also felt pressured because refusing to participate might make them appear unsociable or not being a “team player”.

The post quickly sparked discussion online, with many netizens questioning whether it could still be considered a proper company trip if employees were requir
‘Need to pay for the flight tickets ourselves and even annual leave gets deducted? If hotel also need to share room with colleagues then I really won’t go. Might as well just cancel the company trip,. Better to just give a RM2,000 angpow instead.’

‘What’s the point of going? Better to go on a family trip instead… especially since we have to pay ourselves.’

‘Even if my company fully sponsors everything, I’d still choose not to go. I simply don’t want to go. If I appear unsociable, then so be it.’
