A netizen has raised unease over his younger sister’s desire to marry a man who’s more than a decade older than her, believing that the phrase ‘age is just a number’ wasn’t applicable in her case.
In a lengthy anonymous confession, the OP went on to explain the circumstances surrounding the incident and why he and the family were uncomfortable by the prospect of her sister marrying the man.
Had little male friends
According to the OP, his 29-year-old sister had been working at their father’s company since she was 18 and never went to look for another job since.
She also said his sister leads a fairly simple life and doesn’t have much interaction with those of the opposite gender.

Thus, when she broke the news of her having a boyfriend to the family, it came as a shock for them.
Hard worker with temper issues
As for her sister’s boyfriend, the OP said he worked at the same company as her sister for over 10 years and had proven himself to be a capable and skilled worker.
However, his only flaw was that he had a headstrong personality, which led to several altercations with other colleagues.
Despite this, it didn’t stop the OP’s sister from falling for him and wanting to tie the knot with him.

Family reactions
When the OP’s sister brought up the topic of marrying her colleague with the family, their reactions were that of strong opposition.
“My dad vehemently objected to the relationship due to the 16-year age gap and felt that the man’s bad temper and personality didn’t suit her at all. As for my mum, she simply cried.
“While my younger brother expressed no opinions at all, I’m the one who feels the most conflicted over this as I don’t know the man at all and find it difficult to object to the relationship just because my family feels that way,” he wrote.
The OP added that while his sister was old enough to make her own decisions, he said he couldn’t help but worry as the latter had no prior experience in romantic relationships.

The real question has never been whether a 16-year age gap is “good” or “bad”, but whether they’re compatible with each other.
“What worries me most right now is whether our family’s constant opposition will make my sister increasingly determined to prove that she’s right and potentially make wrong choices just to prove us wrong.”
Towards the end of the post, the OP wondered whether the family should continue persuading his sister to terminate the relationship or let her deal with the consequences herself if things were to go awry.
