In a surprising twist to the viral karaoke sensation at the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DoSM), the woman identified as Nana, who gained notoriety for her entertaining lunch breaks, is reportedly no longer employed in the department.
Nana, who previously made headlines for enjoying a three-hour karaoke session during her lunch break, revealed that her contract under the Malaysian Short Term Employment Program (MySTEP) had expired last year.
Karaoke throwback: Setting the record straight
In an attempt to set the record straight, she addressed the public through a video on her TikTok account, apologising for any confusion caused by her earlier comments.
“I’d like to humbly apologise for my careless choice of words in the comment section of my TikTok account. I would like to clarify that I no longer work there (in DoSM) because my contract expired last year.”
“For your information, the video was recorded in September last year and was meant to be fun to show the environment of the place,” she explained in the video.
Despite the public outrage following her initial viral post, Nana maintained that the video was intended for fun and to showcase the workplace’s environment.
‘She no longer works in that department’
The revelation about her contract expiry raises questions about the timing and context of her earlier statements regarding ‘connections’ helping her secure the job.
When contacted by New Straits Times (NST), DoSM’s Head of Statistics, Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin, confirmed Nana’s departure from the department. “Yes, she no longer works in that department,” he succinctly stated.
