With the cost of living increasing with each passing day, Malaysians are also struggling to have a decent meal that doesn’t leave their wallets weeping at the end.
A woman recently took to social media to express her shock over being charged what she believed was an astronomical amount after dining at a Johor restaurant with her family.

In the 23-second video shared by @sukasukaaqla on TikTok, it began with her showing viewers a strip of paper showing the amount she had to pay for the meal.
She then shifted the camera to the dishes she had ordered, namely a plate of prawns and a bowl of ‘siput sedut’.
According to her, the prawns cost RM36 for six pieces, while the ‘siput sedut‘ cost RM24. After including the drinks and rice for six people, the bill totaled to RM110.
However, she felt that the prices were exorbitant and told others not to patronise the stall if they couldn’t afford it.
Debate ensues
In the comment thread, there was a fierce debate among netizens over whether the woman was right in saying that her meal was expensive.
Some felt that the price was reasonable, with one saying one has to take into account the time and manpower spent in preparing and cooking the dishes.
Another asked the woman whether she didn’t inquire about the prices before ordering.
On the other hand, some disagreed, saying that a plate of ‘siput sedut’ shouldn’t cost RM24 when it only costs between RM7-RM8 elsewhere.
One netizen added that she no longer dared to eat at the stall anymore although it used to be her favorite place due to its frightening prices.
