A Malaysian’s complaint about a messy lift incident has sparked discussion online, with many netizens agreeing that people should take responsibility when they accidentally dirty a shared space.
In a post, the netizen shared that she was inside the lift at her apartment when another woman accidentally dropped her drink.
Left without picking up the cup
According to the post, the woman apologised after dropping the drink. However, once the lift reached her floor, she allegedly walked out without even picking up the fallen cup.
The situation left the netizen and another man, who was carrying a trolley full of items, stunned.
Unfortunately, when the lift reached the next level, it was the man with the trolley who ended up picking up the cup without saying anything, while his trolley was allegedly left sticky from the spilled drink.
“Maybe you were too shocked by the spill until you forgot to pick up your own cup?” the netizen wrote.
A photo shared in the post showed a large amount of light-coloured drink spilled across the lift floor and near the lift door.
Netizens tell poster to report to management
The post has since drawn plenty of reactions from netizens, with many saying the woman should have at least picked up the cup or informed management.
One netizen suggested reporting the matter to the building management so that action could be taken.
Another said that at their residence, the management would charge a cleaning fee to the unit involved, as residents use key cards and the person can be traced through CCTV.
Meanwhile, some netizens questioned what the woman was supposed to do if she had no cleaning tools with her, but others pointed out that she could have at least picked up the cup first or informed the management.
