While everyone wants to get along with their colleagues at the workplace, there are bound to be those who hold a strong dislike for an individual and would often talk behind that person’s back.
A woman recently shared how she left feeing hurt and shocked when a secret video recording confirmed her suspicions that her colleagues were badmouthing her without her knowledge.
Left video recording running for 10 mins
In a Threads post, the OP wrote that she had always wondered what her colleagues said behind her back and decided to find out for herself.

“I purposely left my phone on my desk with the video recording on because I wanted to know what my colleagues say about me in secret.
After heading to the toilet for 10 minutes, she returned and proceeded to watch what the recording had captured.
“The first two minutes were relatively quiet with just the sound of keyboards clacking away. But at the third minute, my colleagues started talking badly about me.

“I guess it’s true when people say colleagues are just colleagues, and that there’s no need to treat them like close friends,” wrote the OP.
She also added that she was hit by a big dose of reality by the video recording.
Reactions
Netizens were largely sympathetic to the OP’s plight and they also offered suggestions on how to handle “toxic” colleagues at the workplace.
One wrote that one way to protect one’s mental health is to block all of their colleagues on social media, like how she did.

Another wrote that while it is okay to socialise and befriend colleagues, he noted that the friendship must be limited to within the workplace, adding that the purpose of working is to earn a salary, not to make friends.

However, some also questioned the OP’s method in secretly recording her colleagues, arguing that it didn’t help in resolving the issue.
