M’sian Mum Keeps Asking About Daughter’s Salary As She Only Gives RM300 Monthly

"I'd rather keep my salary a secret."
Do you tell your parents how much is your salary? Have they ever demanded to know the full amount?

According to mStar, one Malaysian woman recently found herself in a dilemma that resonated with many, where she opened up about her choice to keep her monthly salary private, even from her own mother.

‘I just prefer to keep it private’

In a heartfelt post, the woman explained that while her mother frequently asks about her income, she chooses not to reveal the exact amount.

My mum always asks about my salary, but I’m more comfortable not sharing. It’s not that I don’t want to—just that I believe it’s better to keep it private,” she wrote.

Despite earning less than her siblings, she still makes it a point to give her parents RM300 every month.

“That amount is reasonable for me right now, and I haven’t planned to increase it yet. But I still prioritise giving money to my parents whenever I can,” she added.

The woman suspects that her mother’s curiosity stems from the openness of her other siblings about their salaries. But she stands firm in her decision.

Maybe it’s because my siblings are more open about their income, so my mum expects the same from me. But I believe everyone’s rezeki is different. What matters is that I still give what I can.”

Her confession sparked a wave of responses from netizens, many of whom related to her situation and supported her perspective.
