What started out as a gesture of filial piety quickly turned into a huge headache for a woman after her father began treating her like his own personal “ATM”.
To make matters worse, her father also guilt-tripped her whenever she refused to give in to his demands.
Gave RM200 each to parents
According to mStar, the woman shared on social media that she gave RM200 each to her father and mother upon receiving her first paycheck as she wanted to ease their financial burden.

Instead of thanking his daughter for the kind thought, the woman’s father told her that RM200 was insufficient and asked for a higher amount.
Thus, she gave him RM300 the following month but had to decrease her mother’s share to RM100.
Kept demanding for more
However, this only seemed to make matters worse as the woman’s father began hounding her for money on a regular basis.
“Not long after, he said RM300 still wasn’t enough as he had to pay RM800 in bills. When he asked me for another RM200, I simply ignored him.
“He works as an e-hailing driver, so his working schedule is flexible. But he’s simply too lazy to do his job and would choose to lounge around at home.

“After that, he asked me for another RM100 to top up his e-hailing account but I pretended to not hear him. He then called me stingy and said I wasn’t a filial daughter,” she shared.
‘Who’s supporting who?’
The woman also revealed that she has been employed for the past two months as a fresh graduate and earned RM2,000 a month.
She then expressed frustration over her father’s flip-flopping attitude towards her whenever money was involved.
“He praised me as being the most filial child after receiving the RM300, but now he’s changing his tune. Who’s supposed to be supporting who right now?” she questioned.

The woman’s encounter sparked a debate online, with netizens discussing whether or not children should care for and support their parents.
Some said while it was important to practice filial piety, it must be done within one’s means. Others reminded parents to be aware of their children’s financial capabilities and not demand too much as it may lead to financial troubles.
