Road closures during the 47th ASEAN Summit, combined with the heavy security presence for US President Donald Trump’s visit to Malaysia, caused massive gridlock across the Klang Valley.
Among those caught in the standstill was 23-year-old Leona, the daughter of veteran Malaysian actor Azhar Sulaiman, who spent five hours trying to get to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) — only to miss her flight.
Left home at 7am, arrived at airport at noon
According to mStar, Leona shared the ordeal on her Instagram stories, revealing that despite leaving home at 7am for her 11am flight, she only reached KLIA around 12pm due to severe congestion caused by road closures and diverted routes.
I spent five whole hours just to get to the airport, and still missed my flight.”

Leona also joked that she fell asleep for 45 minutes in the car, only to wake up and discover that the vehicle hadn’t moved at all.
‘I should have listened to my mom’
Fortunately, she managed to rebook her trip and catch a 2pm flight, offering followers a sigh of relief after her chaotic morning.
Leona admitted that the entire situation could have been avoided if she had taken her mother’s advice.
She shared that her mother had urged her to take the train from KL Sentral to the airport instead of relying on a car.

My mom told me in the morning to take the train from KL Sentral, but I was too stubborn to listen. Now I’ve learned my lesson. Next time, I’ll listen to my mom.”
The incident quickly drew sympathy and amused reactions online, serving as a reminder to many Malaysians that during major events, especially when global leaders are in town, KL traffic waits for no one.
