A woman was tragically killed while eight others, including a seven month old baby, were injured in a devastating road accident at Kluang, Johor last night (Jan 5).
According to MalaysiaGazette, the accident, which involved a lorry and a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), took place at around 7.15pm at Kilometer 86 of Jalan Johor Baru-Air Hitam.
M’sian woman killed in car crash after attending brother’s engagement ceremony
The news portal reported that the victim, 39-year-old Widiani Afendi, was traveling home with six family members after attending her brother’s engagement ceremony.
Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred when a five-ton lorry traveling from Simpang Renggam to Ayer Hitam lost control and veered into the opposite lane.

“Upon reaching the scene, the lorry collided with the MPV. As a result, Widiani, who was a rear passenger in the MPV, suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene.
“The MPV driver and six other passengers, including three children aged between seven months and seven years old, sustained injuries, some of which were severe,” he said.
All of the victims were taken to Enche Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK) for treatment and post-mortem procedures.
Bahrin added that the lorry driver, Ng Kuang Hui, sustained head and internal chest injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.

The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
‘Bury me next to my husband when I’m gone’
According to Widiani’s brother Deday, he said he noticed some changes in her behaviour two days before the tragedy.
She often discussed the topic of death with family members and even shared death-related talks she saw from TikTok.
“I didn’t think much of it, but she did tell her eldest child to make sure she was buried next to her late husband, who was an army personnel and passed away five years ago due to a heart condition,” he told Harian Metro.

He added on the day of the accident, only the MPV carrying Widiani took a different route to stop by the Ayer Hitam market.
“We used the highway to return to Simpang Renggam. I learned about the accident at home when a friend urgently asked me to go to our mother’s house.
“I rushed over, and upon arriving, I saw many family members crying and wailing, informing me that Widiani was gone,” he recounted.
Widiani was eventually laid to rest at the Kampung Parit Wak Jabir Islamic Cemetery in Benut around 11am today.
